Been a while? Here is what has changed in Jaktli

Jaktli 1.0 came out at the end of April. Since then we have released a new version about every other week, and today we are at 1.18. Did you try the app in the spring and not come back since? Then it looks quite different now. Here is the most important of what has happened, sorted by what it concerns rather than by version. Every version's news is under news.
The map
The map works without coverage. Download the map of the hunting ground in advance and it stays on the phone where there is no signal. The team's markers, areas, observations, calendar and contacts are saved on the phone too, so you see the same map as last time even without signal. The app no longer signs you out when the signal drops.
Swedish maps. Lantmäteriet's topographic map in colour and in a muted version, aerial photos of your ground that rebuild by themselves when Lantmäteriet has new imagery, property boundaries with designations, and elevation data for all of Sweden behind the terrain shading. On the web the map is in 3D too.
Buttons where your thumb reaches. The map buttons now sit at the bottom right, and the Tools button unfolds every tool as a grid where each tile has a name. Pin the tools you use most to the button column. Left-handed? Move the whole column to the left. Clean map removes the buttons when you want the ground to yourself, and under Display you pick marker size, names, dots and how strong the shading is.
More ways to draw and mark. There are 21 marker types, sorted in groups, with their own pins: tree stand, ground blind, shooting lane, barrier, waterhole, crop field, trap, butchery and more. Write your own text on the map, with several lines and a colour. Record a track by walking the way you want to draw. Give markers a colour the whole team sees, or put the team's labels on markers and areas, Drive 1 or Moose for example, and filter the map by them. Choose your own colour and fill for areas, on your map only. A stand out of use is marked inactive instead of being deleted.
Bring your map over. Import from WeHunt, Easyhunt, GPX, GeoJSON and KML. An imported boundary that arrived as a line becomes an area with one tap. Fetch the hunting ground's boundaries from the property designation, or point at the property on the map.
Measure and see. Five measuring tools: from your position, between two points, a circle around a tower, a line of sight that shows where the view ends, and Border distance, which shades the ground closest to the neighbour. From a tower you can show what can actually be seen from there, and see the team's combined coverage from every tower. An MGRS grid can be switched on, and every marker shows its MGRS position. Navigate to a marker with an arrow and a counting-down distance.
Book stands, towers and cabins. An administrator opens places for booking, then everyone books for a day or a time under Bookings or straight from the map. The app warns when the time is taken, and the bookings show in the calendar. More in the handbook under the map and bookings.
Observations
Log what you see, down, wound or track straight on the team map, at any time, not only during a hunt. Pick the date you saw the animal and it lands right in the statistics. Point out where the animal came from and where it went, note the shot reaction for wounded game, and let a downed marker hold several animals when twenty pheasants go in. The form closes the moment you save, and the app sends the observation and the photo in the background when there is coverage. Turn on Heat map to see where the game tends to be, species by species, through the year. Filter by category, or show only the last few days' observations. Tap an observation and it says who added it.
During the hunt
The battery lasts the day. New GPS modes, automatic, fixed interval or battery saver, and a long list of improvements to everything the app does with the phone while a hunt is running. Trails no longer jump when the GPS loses its grip, and the map only turns when your heading has really changed.
More on the map. A wind and scent cone from your compass, no-shoot arrows towards other hunters, distance rings, and arrows at the edge of the map towards hunters and dogs off-screen. You choose how long the trails are, 5 to 60 minutes, for yourself, your team-mates and the dogs, and whether hunters show with initials, full names, nicknames or call signs. Tap a hunter to call or text straight from the map. Stands, areas and text can be added while the hunt is running.
Several hunts at once. The team can run several hunts on different parts of the ground. Everyone out still shows on the map and counts in the safety warnings. With Share my position the team sees where you are outside a hunt too. A hunt nobody ended closes itself after four hours without activity.
The hunt chat keeps up. The app writes short lines into the hunt chat by itself when someone downs game, logs an observation or joins the hunt.
The hunt log. Play back the whole hunt afterwards on the team's usual map, with trails and observations minute by minute. The distance is split into on foot and by car. Download your own and the dogs' tracks as GPX. Add observations afterwards, archive old hunts and delete false starts. Whoever led the hunt can write a short hunt report. More under live hunt and past hunts.
The dogs
None of this existed in 1.0. Now you see the dog on the team map with its trail, distance and direction, also when no hunt is running.
- Garmin tracking collars through the Jaktli watch app, which reads the collar's signal and passes it on through the phone. The watch app has a dog radar on the wrist and works with some eighty watch models, from the fenix 5 to the fenix 9, Instinct, Enduro and D2 Mach.
- GPS collars that send over the mobile network, such as the TK-911 and 365GPS C09, with a guide that sets the collar up by text message.
- A spare phone as a tracker with the Jaktli OpenTrack app.
The dog bar under the map shows distance, direction, status and battery for every dog. When the dog is on point or treed it shows on the dog's dot. An arrow at the edge of the map shows the direction to a dog off-screen. After the hunt the hunt log says how far the dog ran. More under dog trackers and OpenTrack.
Hunt PM and stand allocation
A group hunt in the calendar now has Plan the hunt. Split the hunt into drives, pick the stands from the map, place the shooters yourself or let the app draw lots, taking into account who stood where before. Give everyone a role: shooter, dog handler, beater, hunt leader. Add the agenda, the hunt leadership and the tracking hunter.
From that the app writes the hunt PM for you: safety rules, allowed game, gathering place with a map, hunt leadership with phone numbers, the Jaktli code with a QR code, radio channel, agenda and a map with the stand list for every drive. Read it in the app or print it as a PDF with one page per drive. During the hunt your own stand is ringed on the map, the Your stand button shows the way there, and Hunt focus fades everything except the drive's stands. More under hunt PM and stand allocation.
The calendar
Everyone answers the hunt call with one tap, with Can't attend and a short note if they like. The hunt leader can answer for someone who has not, and the call can carry a Respond by. The full SMHI forecast sits in the calendar, about ten days ahead, with weather, sunrise and sunset per day. Days when a hunting season opens or closes are marked. Subscribe to the team's calendar in your phone's own calendar, with the hunt PM and your stand in every hunt. Invite a friend to a single hunt with a code or QR code, without making them a member. More under the calendar and guest hunts.
The chat
A room for the whole team and a thread for every hunt were there from the
start. Since then: your own channels, private chats one to one or in a group,
replies to single messages, reactions with Jaktli's own animals, moose, roe
deer, wild boar and more, which you can also type as :moose:. Send files
and videos, record a video right in the chat, paste a screenshot, or send a
picture from the gallery or a trail camera to the chat. Coordinates and MGRS
squares in a message become links that open the map on the spot. What you
wrote but did not send is still there when you come back. Mention someone
with @, and mute a room that has become too chatty. More under
the chat.
Hunting seasons
The Hunting seasons tile shows which species may be hunted today on your ground, which open soon and which are closed, with the right dates for your county and the county board's decisions on licensed hunting. The team can close species or shorten seasons for its own ground, and you can look at another county's dates before a hunt away from home. The seasons for every species and county are also open to everyone at jaktli.se/en/hunting-seasons. More under hunting seasons.
Harvest and statistics
Downed game lands in the Harvest log with weights, photo, shot location and who got the meat. The shooter need not be a team member. Animals from a hunt get their photo and position from the hunt by themselves. Statistics per season show hunts, man-hours, downed and sighted game per species and per person, and expenses, ready for the annual meeting. More under harvest and statistics.
Trail cameras
The camera emails its pictures to Jaktli, and the whole team sees them at once, sorted by day, with a notification when a new picture arrives. See every camera in one feed, tap the map button to see where the camera stands, select several pictures and delete them in one go, and mark everything as seen. Sharing from Molnus works without extra steps. More under trail cameras.
The team
Invite with a code. The team has its own join code with a QR code. The new member scans it and is in at once; no email needed.
More roles. Chairperson, board member and treasurer as administrator and officer roles. The treasurer handles billing. A read-only member sees everything and changes little. Guest hunter, tracking hunter, landowner, non-hunting guest and farmer are free and take no paid seat. Every member can have a radio call sign, which follows them onto the map and into the hunt PM.
Documents in folders, which can be limited to the board for example, and downloaded as one ZIP file. The home screen is arranged as you like, and the order follows your account. A deleted team is kept for 30 days. An administrator can export all the team's data. Newcomers get a guided start, and a new team a getting-started list. More under members and documents.
Your own things
Under My documents you keep your hunting licence, hunter's exam, weapon licence and shooting test, and get a reminder before they expire. The hunt leader can confirm the papers are in order. Dogs and weapons have their own registries that follow you between teams. Notifications are set per category, push and email separately. Call, text or save a team-mate to your phone's contacts straight from the app. More under profile and my documents.
On the web
Everything above is on jaktli.se too, and some of it only there: print the map from A4 to A0 in the print studio, manage many map objects at once, see the map in 3D and upload whole folders of documents. The handbook is under jaktli.se/docs, and if you want to compare us with WeHunt and Garmin Alpha there is the comparison.
Still the same price
150 kronor per member and year, one invoice, everything included. The free roles cost nothing. If you have not signed in for a while, the team is still there as you left it. Let us know if anything is giving you trouble. We read all feedback.
