Version 1.16 is out

We have released version 1.16 of Jaktli. This version gives you more say over the map, lets edits wait for reception just like new observations do, and keeps the aerial photos fresh by themselves. Bird hunters get a count on downed game, and the hunt log can hand over your tracks as GPX.

The map your way

The map has its own settings now. Tap the sliders button at the bottom left to open Map settings. There you choose:

  • Marker size. Pins now sit on the ground and grow as you zoom in, and the slider makes them larger or smaller overall.
  • Marker names and Text size. Show the names next to the markers or not, and how large.
  • Dots when zoomed out. Far out, markers show as dots instead of pins.
  • Marker icons. Turn them off and every marker shows as a dot with its name above, at any zoom.
  • Hillshade strength. How much the hills show in the map.

The settings are kept on the phone, so everyone in the team can have the map the way they like it.

The clusters with a count when zooming out are gone. Far out, each ground now shows as one simple mark instead.

Two more things on the map. Hide controls, at the bottom of the button column on the left, removes every button except the compass, the wind and the hunt buttons when you want the ground to yourself. Tap again to bring them back. And forbidden areas are now hatched with red lines, so they stand out whatever colour the area has.

Anyone sharing their position outside a hunt, or hunting in another of the team's hunts, now has their name on the map. Tap the person for a card with the details. On the web you now also see your own shared position.

The radius you last chose for the view from a tower is remembered, so the next calculation starts where you left off.

Changes send themselves

In version 1.14 new observations and markers started being kept on the phone and sent by themselves once reception returned. The same now goes for edits. Edit a marker or an observation, swap the photo or remove it, and the form closes at once. The map shows the change straight away, and the app sends it in the background as soon as it can. The bar at the top of the map shows what is waiting, and Try again is still there if something fails outright.

A replaced photo sometimes showed as the old picture for a while. That is fixed, both for markers and in the harvest log.

Number of animals on downed game

On a bird hunt a downed marker could only be one animal, so twenty pheasants became twenty markers. The marker now has a Number of animals field. Enter how many, and you get one marker on the map and one row in the harvest log with the count. The statistics count every animal.

The statistics now also count animals entered straight in the harvest log, with no marker on the map. Before, those only showed in the harvest log.

Tracks as GPX

Open a hunt under Past hunts and tap Export tracks. You get your own track and your dogs' tracks as a GPX file, to keep or to open in another app. Only your own tracks are included, not your teammates'. More in the handbook.

The dogs

The dog bar under the map used to come and go, depending on whether the tracker had reported in the last 30 minutes. It now lists all your trackers all the time. A dog that has gone quiet shows grey with its last distance, and a tracker that has sent nothing for two days shows No position.

The Share and Stop sharing buttons in the dog panel switch the moment you tap, and the panel closes when you tap the map or drag it down by its handle.

The Garmin watch app now also works with the fenix 5, fenix 5 Plus and fenix 9 watches. And Jaktli OpenTrack, the app that turns an old phone into a dog tracker, is now on both the App Store and Google Play.

On Android the dog bar no longer sits under the navigation bar, and the map buttons sit where they should.

Aerial photos update by themselves

Lantmäteriet photographs Sweden from the air in rounds, and until now an administrator had to press Update for each area when new photos were out. Jaktli now checks once a month whether there are new aerial photos of your ground, rebuilds the aerial layer, and sends the team a notification when it is done.

If you have downloaded the aerial photos to your phone, they stay until the update has been fetched, so you are never left without. The layers menu shows Update next to the aerial layer when there is a new one to fetch. The files are large, so do it at home on wifi.

Photos, chat and calendar

The image viewer in the app now zooms up to 20x, sharp all the way. A pinch zooms around your fingers, and the picture cannot be dragged out of view. The web image viewer has zoom too: scroll with the wheel, double-click, or use plus and minus on the keyboard.

In the chat the message leaves the box the moment you tap Send. Until it has arrived it shows dimmed with a small clock. If it cannot be sent, the text comes back into the box. Before, the message could show twice for a short moment.

The weather card in the calendar now opens the weather for the very day you are looking at, and that day is highlighted on the weather screen.

On the web

The map print has a recommendation for anyone who wants a large, weather-resistant print or a whiteboard: Jaktkarta takes the PDF from Jaktli. The settings to pick are in the handbook.

Other

  • The treasurer can now edit and delete the team's expenses and mark them paid out, without being an administrator.
  • Every character works in names on the map, including Cyrillic and Greek letters and special symbols.
  • Teams whose trial or subscription has run out now get an email the same day, instead of only when someone opens the app.
  • Plus smaller fixes and improvements.
