How to choose an app for your hunting team

More and more hunting teams are replacing call lists, paper maps and loose text threads with an app. But what should you actually look for when the team chooses one? Here are the questions we think you should ask, whichever app you end up with.
Does it work for the whole team?
A hunting team app is only as good as the share of the team that uses it. Look at:
- Does it work on both iPhone and Android, and ideally on a computer too?
- Is it simple enough for the least technical member of the team?
- Is it available in your language?
Jaktli is built for Swedish hunting teams from the ground up, with members and roles that match how a team actually works: hunt leader, secretary, dog handlers, landowners and guests.
A calendar with answers, not just dates
A shared calendar is the foundation. But what saves time is the answers: when you call a hunt you immediately see who is coming, and those who have not answered get a reminder. Read more about the hunting calendar in Jaktli.
A map the team owns together
The map should show your grounds: borders, stands, towers and feeding sites. When the hunt leader adds a new stand, everyone should see it right away. During the hunt, sightings and downed game should land on the map where they happened. See how the hunting map in Jaktli works.
Live hunts with safety first
On a driven hunt you want to know where the hunters stand and where the dogs are running. A good app shows the team live on the map, and keeps working when coverage is weak. This is the core of live hunts in Jaktli.
Does the team run dogs with GPS collars? Check that the app can show the dog on the team map, so the whole team sees the dog and not just the handler.
What happens after the hunt?
A harvest log, statistics and a hunt history mean the team never has to add up the season by hand. Correct harvest reporting is also a requirement from many landowners and game management areas.
What does it cost, and what is included?
Compare the yearly cost for the whole team, not just the price per person. Also check whether everything is included or whether the essentials sit behind add-ons. Jaktli costs 150 SEK per member per year, everything included, and the whole team can try it free for 90 days with no card.
