Moose hunting season 2026/27
General hunting season for moose in the hunting year 2026/27: 8 October to 31 January. Below: the law text per animal, the counties with other dates, and the decisions the county boards have published.
General season, whole country

8 October to 31 January
Applies inside moose management and licence areas. The county administrative board sets the start, the rut break and any extra windows per moose management unit; outside registered areas only calves of the year may be taken, during five days from the start (Hunting Ordinance annex 2).
Exceptions per county
Where a county has its own line in the Hunting Ordinance, it replaces the national dates. The dates below apply instead of the table above.
Värmland County, northern part
- All animals
1 September to 31 January
Area: annex 2 names Torsby municipality. Applies inside moose management and licence areas. The county administrative board sets the start, the rut break and any extra windows per moose management unit; outside registered areas only calves of the year may be taken, during five days from the start (Hunting Ordinance annex 2).

Dalarna County, northern part

Area: annex 2 names the municipalities of Malung-Sälen, Orsa, Rättvik and Älvdalen and parts of Mora. Applies inside moose management and licence areas. Protective hunting under annex 4
Protective hunting under annex 4 of the Hunting Ordinance may be carried out on your own initiative when the conditions of the item are met. It has no dates: the conditions must be met every time.

1 August to 7 October
A calf of the year at a field with unharvested crops may be hunted to prevent damage, unless the county administrative board has ruled otherwise, from 1 Aug until the start of the local moose season under annex 2 (item 10).
